WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY BLOG

MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS CAN AFFECT ANYONE, ANY DAY OF THE YEAR, BUT 10TH OCTOBER IS A GREAT DAY TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR BETTER MENTAL HEALTH AND START LOOKING AFTER YOUR OWN WELLBEING. THIS BLOG EXPLAINS THE BENEFITS OF A FEW KEY POINTS TO IMPROVED MENTAL HEALTH.

Eating

A balanced mood and feelings of wellbeing can be protected by ensuring that our diet provides adequate amounts of complex carbohydrates, essential fats, amino acids, vitamins and minerals and water and by paying attention to how eating certain foods makes our bodies feel. It is important to eat less of the foods that make our bodies feel heavy and full and therefore weighs our mind and emotions down and more of the foods that make us feel alive and happy.

Mindful eating and listening to our bodies gives us the power to be in control of what we really need to fuel our minds to ensure that we are continually the best version of ourselves.

Sleeping

There is a close relationship between sleep and mental health and the downward spiral effect where poor sleep can lead to worrying, and worrying can lead to poor sleep. The worse you sleep the less able you become to cope during the day which can have a knock on effect with your relationships and career and ultimately your mental health. Sleep regenerates our brains and bodies and not getting enough sleep leads to the build-up of sleep debt which is only repayable through sleeping!

Try meditation, essential oils, creating sleep rituals and giving yourselves ‘quiet time’ before bed.

Talking

Talking whether to friends, family or professionals can enable us to share problems and raise our awareness of ourselves. They say a problem shared is a problem halved. An article could look at how by talking to those we trust can open us up to a world of choice. When we have choices we can go on to make empowering decisions that are right for us. This allows for our behaviours to change, our self-confidence to increase, our empathy and compassion for ourselves and others to grow and our relationships to enhance. At Haelan Therapy we use our unique and pioneering formula The Haelan Transformation Method to combine the power of talk and touch therapy (massage, reflexology etc) giving clients greater access to their own creativity, inspiration and recognise their inner wisdom at both mental, emotional and physical level and to facilitate a change which enables them to be the best versions of themselves.

Friendships

Friendships and having good friends that we can rely on for support can help improve our self-confidence and enable us to make better decisions for our lives. Creating a bond with others enables a meaningful connection, someone to trust and count upon. Motivational speaker Jim Rohn famously said that “we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with.” So if you are spending time with five people who are not happy with their lives, constantly moaning and blaming others for their feelings of wretchedness then it is highly likely that you will also feel the same way. Hang out with five people that have a positive outlook, are highly motivated and feel good about themselves and the law of averages predicts that you will feel the same way too.
